welcome to the online yogi project

* Initial Proof of Concept: November, 2005

This video depicts very rapidly created prototype experiment, popular Boston yoga teacher Gregor Singleton of the Baptiste Power Vinyasa Institute teaches the first ever live, interactive online yoga class to students from other rooms at MIT, across town in Harvard Square and across the nation in San Francisco, California. After the test, all participants agreed the technology of audio, video and live interaction allowed teacher and student alike to immerse fully in the experience of the moment, allowing the Internet to nearly invisibly facilitate the interconnections between participants.

* What's Next: Creation of Free, Open Source Software

Based on the success of the 2005 event, the MIT E-Commerce Architecture Program has chosen to make OnlineYogi the key research and development initiative of the 2006-2007 academic year, committing to complete and launch free, open source software for OnlineYogi.Com by summer, 2007.

* Connected Consciousness Technologies: Engage

By combining high quality post-produced video and instructional materials which the student can follow, OnlineYogi provides a solid foundation for learning. However, the real value of this initiative is the introduction of a live, qualified teacher who in turn follows the student via webcam video and audio. By interconnecting with qualified, live teachers, OnlineYogi.Com creates a rich, customized, interactive environment to support the safety, health and continued growth of every student. Secure, authorized health information about each student allows teachers to discover injuries, learning objectives and other relevant information the student has permitted. These technologies have been selected, programmed and configured to enable people to engage not only in physical health activities but also in deeper learning and community discussions, collaborative work and group games or trainings. In essence, the technologies are designed to help people interconnect with each other and with their own higher intentions for health and well being. Our December 1st event includes people around the world using OnlineYogi.Com technology for yoga, dancing, acrobatics, meditation and socializing, among other activities.
